Overview

An esteemed financial institution in Gaborone is seeking an experienced and strategic professional to join as the Head of Banking Operations. This role requires a seasoned individual to lead and manage core back-office functions, develop operational strategies, and ensure adherence to service-level agreements (SLAs). The ideal candidate will drive operational excellence, maintain regulatory compliance, and support the organization’s strategic objectives.


Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement strategies, policies, and procedures to optimize daily back-office functions.
  • Collaborate with executive and senior management to establish organization-wide SLAs aligned with the overall strategy.
  • Create and monitor operational-level agreements within the division to meet agreed SLAs effectively.

Operational Oversight

  • Approve and oversee tracking and verification processes for new account documentation.
  • Ensure new accounts requiring special attachments or documents are complete and accurate.
  • Maintain accuracy in the organization’s database, including new and replacement account details.
  • Verify compliance with the bank’s Customer Identification Program for all new deposit customers.

Reporting and Data Accuracy

  • Approve and monitor system reports for new customers as required.
  • Ensure monthly statistical reports, such as Closed Account Tracking, are prepared accurately and distributed to relevant personnel.
  • Review reports to verify input accuracy and maintain operational standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Banking, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree in Banking, Finance, Accounting, or a related field is strongly preferred.

Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in banking or mass-market financial institutions, with at least 5 years in back-office operations and 3 years in a managerial role.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Expertise in retail banking operations management.
  • Proficiency in business process improvement and optimization.
  • Strong planning, organization, and results-focused mindset.
  • Experience in budgetary and financial controls.
  • Solid understanding of risk management and internal control frameworks.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and influencing skills.
