Overview:
We are actively seeking a qualified and dedicated Millwright to join our team in Standerton. The successful candidate will be responsible for attending to breakdowns, performing routine and scheduled maintenance, and ensuring the effective functioning of plant and equipment. This role is crucial in ensuring the plant operates smoothly, minimizing downtime, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the production process. In addition to maintaining and repairing machinery, the Millwright will manage subordinates, ensuring tasks are performed according to company safety standards and quality protocols. Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Breakdown Response:
The Millwright will be required to quickly and efficiently attend to breakdowns of various machinery in the plant. This includes diagnosing mechanical issues, identifying root causes, and making the necessary repairs or adjustments. The goal is to minimize downtime, restoring machinery to full functionality as quickly as possible. Speed, precision, and the ability to troubleshoot effectively are essential in this area of responsibility. - Routine Maintenance:
The successful candidate will carry out regular and scheduled maintenance on plant equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent potential breakdowns. Maintenance tasks include inspecting machinery, lubricating moving parts, tightening bolts and fittings, and replacing worn or damaged components. By conducting routine maintenance, the Millwright ensures the plant operates smoothly and minimizes the risk of unexpected failures. Preventative maintenance is key to prolonging the lifespan of the equipment and avoiding costly repairs in the future. - Preventative Maintenance:
The role includes carrying out planned and preventative maintenance tasks. These tasks will be scheduled according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and the plant’s operational needs. In this area, the Millwright will perform inspections, replace parts that are close to the end of their service life, and clean machinery to ensure the plant equipment is functioning properly. The goal is to prevent breakdowns before they occur by proactively addressing potential issues. - Team Management:
As part of the role, the Millwright will be responsible for overseeing and managing subordinates, including other maintenance technicians. The Millwright will delegate tasks effectively, ensuring that team members are aware of their responsibilities and deadlines. The candidate will monitor progress, provide feedback, and assist in troubleshooting where necessary. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as the Millwright will play an essential part in motivating the team, fostering a collaborative work environment, and ensuring that all maintenance tasks are carried out safely and efficiently. - Compliance and Safety:

Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Educational Requirements:
A minimum N3 qualification is required for this role. This educational background provides a solid foundation in mechanical principles, which is essential for diagnosing and repairing machinery. The N3 qualification should be supplemented by practical experience in the field, allowing the Millwright to perform tasks efficiently and accurately. - Certification:
The ideal candidate must hold a trade certificate as a Millwright. This certification ensures that the candidate possesses the necessary skills and technical knowledge to perform maintenance and repairs on plant equipment, machinery, and systems. The certificate is a testament to the candidate’s expertise and their ability to work in a professional capacity in the field. - Technical Skills:
Computer literacy is essential for this role. As many modern machines and equipment are operated and monitored through computerized systems, the Millwright will need to have a basic understanding of how to use computers for diagnostic purposes, record-keeping, and communication. Familiarity with basic software applications such as Microsoft Office will also be required to ensure effective management of maintenance tasks, reporting, and communication with other team members. - Work Availability:
The Millwright should be willing to work weekends, shifts, and public holidays as required by the plant’s operational schedule. Previous experience working in the food processing industry is advantageous. Experience in this industry ensures that the candidate will be familiar with the specific challenges that arise in such environments. - Additional Experience:
- Refrigeration Plant Room Experience: Knowledge of refrigeration systems and plant rooms is a valuable skill for this role. The Millwright may be called upon to maintain and repair refrigeration equipment used in food storage and processing, making this expertise beneficial to the role.
- Scales/Electronic Systems Experience: Familiarity with electronic systems such as scales used in the production process will also be an advantage. This knowledge will enable the Millwright to manage and troubleshoot electronic components in the production equipment, ensuring proper functioning and minimal downtime.
- Transportation:
The Millwright must have their own reliable transport. This is necessary to ensure the candidate can commute to and from the workplace as needed. Reliable transportation also ensures that the Millwright can respond to emergency breakdowns or issues quickly, regardless of location.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Documentation and Reporting:
The Millwright will be responsible for maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, breakdowns, repairs, and inspections. Documentation is crucial for ensuring that maintenance activities are tracked, and the plant complies with safety regulations. Reports will be generated to provide updates to management, allowing for the monitoring of plant performance and any ongoing issues that may require attention. Accurate reporting will help inform future maintenance schedules and equipment upgrades. - Collaboration and Communication:
The Millwright will work closely with other members of the maintenance team, production staff, and management. Clear communication is essential to ensure that maintenance activities are planned and carried out efficiently. The Millwright will also be involved in troubleshooting mechanical issues and will be expected to collaborate with other teams to identify solutions and prevent future breakdowns. - Continuous Improvement:
As part of the role, the Millwright will be encouraged to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
